Dinie Boogaart is a great admirer of the painter Käthe Kollwitz (1867-1945), who is regarded as one of the most important German expressionists. Dinie Boogaart characterises her own style as expressive figuration. ‘I therefore draw people as it were from my inner feelings. And doing so I mainly use classic themes like the nude, the portrait, the landscape and the still life. Human expression fascinates me most of all in this respect. I in particular focus on what people radiate, what they show.’ Like Kollwitz she uses strong contour lines. Because colour and clair-obscure are essential to Dinie Boogaart she adds pastel in brigtly glowing colours to the charcoal lines.
